A widget shouldn't make your site slower or load anything from anyone other than us. Here's what it actually does.
Speed
- The script loads with async, so the rest of your page doesn't wait for it.
- The script only loads the widgets that are actually on the page.
- Data and script may be cached in the browser for 5 minutes. A new review can therefore take a few minutes to appear in the widget.
- The carousel changes by itself every 4 seconds, but stays still if the visitor has turned off motion in their system.
No calls to others
- Everything is loaded from api.trustsays.com: the script, data and fonts. There are no calls to Google Fonts or other third parties.
- The request is sent without cookies. The widget sets no cookies.
- Latest review and Mobile bar with button only remember in the browser's sessionStorage that they've been shown or closed, for as long as the visit lasts.
Shadow DOM
Each widget is drawn in its own Shadow DOM. Your site's CSS can't change the widget, and the widget's CSS can't affect your site. Apart from the script, only the font definitions are added to the page's head.
What data is shown?
The widget only shows what's already public on your profile: SaysScore, number, breakdown and public reviews with the reviewer's first name. Reviewer faces shows initials, never photos.
As with all content loaded from another server, our server sees the visitor's IP address when the widget is loaded. If you have questions about how to describe this in your own privacy policy, contact us and we'll help.
